Experience contemporary Japanese art through the tradition of the tea ceremony.
AREThé Festival offers a unique experience for everyone: celebrate the Tea ritual and Japanese contemporary art.
AREThé Festival yearns to spot the light on Japanese contemporary art through the tradition of chanoyu (« The Way of Tea » or « The Tea Ceremony »). Though the terms "contemporary" and "tradition" may seem opposite, their fusion is actually significant of the essence of Japanese culture, which ally traditions and modernity.
Originally The Way of Tea was a type of meeting, where small groups gathered and discussed about art. In fact, the chadôgu (The Tea Art instruments) used for the ritual are considered as masterpieces, functional and esthetic at the same time. Chadôgu are objects of private collections used for specific occasions. Each piece is unique and represent a fraction of a whole. All the pieces coexist in harmony, not only with the place and the theme of the meeting, but also with the current season as well as with nature and guests were invited to enjoy the host's subtle aesthetic.
Each ceremony create a transient exhibition, expressing inner tranquility and artistic creativity.
The chadôgu presented at the AREThé Festival are created by contemporary artists who perpetuate the spirit of "avant-garde". For 400 years, the art of tea has never ceased to amaze our senses. The AREThé Festival is the opportunity to experience contemporary art in interactive way: it’s a vector of universal and timeless values.
For this 4th edition several exhibitions, tea ceremony rituals and conferences will be hold from the 24th September in renowned establishments from the heart of Paris (France) to Milan (Italy), Oxford (England) and Lugano (Swiss).
